Our Mission

 

I started Reid & Co because I believe recruitment should be about people, not placements.

After 20 years in software recruitment, I've seen how this industry operates, and most of it doesn't sit well with me. Too many agencies treat candidates like inventory and clients like transactions. I wanted to build something different.

Reid & Co is a recruitment and coaching practice that puts relationships first. I work with NZ organisations to find the right IT professionals - permanent and contract - and I work with individuals and teams to develop the kind of mindset that turns good people into great ones.

I live and die by three principles: service, service, service. That means fewer clients, more attention, and better outcomes for everyone involved.

I don't send CVs and hope for the best. That's not recruitment — that's a lucky dip.

I take a consultative approach, which means I'll advise you on how to frame the role, what the market looks like, and how to structure the process to get the best result. I've spent 20 years building relationships in the NZ software market, and that network is what you're really getting when you work with me.

I work with a select number of clients at any given time. The Jerry Maguire effect — fewer clients, more attention, better outcomes. You deal with me directly, not a revolving door of junior recruiters.

Whether it's a permanent hire or a contract specialist, I'll find you the right person — not just the available one.


For Candidates

Here's the truth most recruiters won't tell you: your digital application is probably spam to them. It lands in a pile with hundreds of others and gets maybe 30 seconds of attention.

I work differently. I get to know you — what drives you, what you're good at, what you actually want from your career. Then I connect you with roles and organisations where you'll genuinely thrive, not just fill a seat.

I'll give you honest advice, even when it's not what you want to hear. And I'll invest in you beyond the immediate placement, because that's how good recruitment works. 

 

What makes Reid & Co different

I'm not an agency. I'm a person. When you work with Reid & Co, you work with me. Chris Reid. I answer my own phone, I run my own searches, and I'll tell you what I actually think, not what sounds good.

I specialise. 20 years in software recruitment in the NZ market. I know the people, I know the roles, and I know when something's a genuine fit versus a hopeful stretch. That depth matters.

I'm honest. Sometimes that means telling a client their job description won't attract who they want. Sometimes it means telling a candidate they need to rethink their approach. It's not always comfortable, but it's always in your interest.

Recruitment is only half of what I do. I also run Growth Mindset Workshops and coach individuals through career transitions. That means I understand people at a level that most recruiters never get to. And it makes me better at every part of this work.

I play the long game. I'd rather build a relationship that lasts 10 years than chase a quick fee. Every client and candidate I work with knows that.

I don't do theory-heavy seminars. If you want someone to stand at the front and talk at your team for two hours, I'm not your guy.

My workshops are experiential. Your team will do things (exercises, challenges, activities) that feel like one thing but actually teach something completely different. That's when the real learning happens. Not when someone tells you to think differently, but when you discover it for yourself.

Every session is built around your team's specific challenges. Before I design anything, I spend time understanding your people: who they are, how they work together, what's holding them back. Then I build something tailored, not off-the-shelf.

What you can expect: your team will laugh, they'll be challenged, they'll have a few uncomfortable moments of self-awareness, and they'll leave with practical tools they can actually use. Not a binder full of frameworks they'll never look at again.

I've been doing this work across NZ organisations and I bring the same directness to a workshop room that I bring to everything else: honest, human, and designed to make a genuine difference.
